Obituary published on Legacy.com by Samaritan Affordable Funeral and Cremation Services - Terre Haute on Mar. 18, 2026.
Joseph Ermin Greene blessed this earthly realm on December 24th, 1959. He was the 6th child of Richard Adam Greene and Jewell Luticia (Pettiford) Greene (both preceded in death), born in
Brazil, Indiana's Clay County Hospital.
Ermin accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age while a member at Lost Creek Baptist Church. Being baptized and serving on various programs during his youth. He never lost his love for God and to draw closer to His heavenly kingdom throughout his entire life.
He attended the Brazil school system and was very active in many activities. While in high school Ermin was a Brazil Red Devil's letterman on the track team, a member of the student council and concert choir, graduating in 1978.
After graduation, Ermin was employed by Alcoa Inc. Then joined the US Army in 1985 and served until 1989. He left the military with an honorable discharge while reaching the rank of Specialist 4 (Corporal).
Ermin was a man of all seasons, which is defined as, a person who is exceptionally versatile, principled, and a reliable individual who remains true to his core values regardless of changing circumstances. This epitomizes Ermin in every way. Winter, spring, summer or fall, you could always depend on him.
He was a loving son, brother, uncle and friend. Ermin lived a life full of curiosity and adventure but always stopped long enough to help others. He was a truly good Samaritan. AND OH, DID HE HELP OTHERS!!!
As a young boy Ermin enjoyed the outdoors and nature. That enjoyment was expressed in his love for gardening. While in the army, when he got a leave of absence, he would come home and help his mother plant shrubs and trees. Most young men that age were too self-absorbed, but not Ermin.
His love for gardening reached across the country, be it helping his Aunt Fern with her beautiful Japanese garden in Castro Valley, California or his community garden in Brazil, he always enjoyed having his hands in the dirt. Not only did he grow, but he also canned and preserved his food. But his true love and happiest time was preparing homecooked gourmet meals.
Ermin put no limits on his kindness towards others. Every family member can attest to that. Family is just a few of the people that were touched by his kindness. There are countless others, but he never boasted or blew his own horn. We who knew Ermin knew who he was! "LOVE."
He was quite the handyman, transforming anything he touched into a thing of beauty. Learning his carpentry skills from his beloved father. He remodeled several homes, with a knack for design. Yes, he was a very creative man but never losing his love for his creator "God." Ermin read and studied his bible diligently, while growing in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Ermin's thirst for knowledge never ended. His heart led him to pursue his passion in helping others by obtaining his associates degree from Ivy Tech and then his bachelor's degree in theology from Saint Mary of the Woods.
So, Ermin (man of all seasons) the bible says in Ecclesiastes 3:1 "There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens." Your season on this earthly realm is complete our loving brother, uncle and friend.
Joseph Ermin Greene was preceded in death by his parents, Richard Adam Greene and Jewell Luticia (Pettiford) Greene. He leaves a beautiful legacy of loved ones who will miss him dearly. His four sisters: Denise Gard and (Don), Judith Brown and (Cleveland), Phyllis Norvell and (Ron), Terri L. McGee and (Keith) and two brothers, Richard Addison Greene (Karen), and Matthew Greene (Bill). Along with a host of nephews, nieces, cherished friends and a special friend, Ms. Beth Dailey.
A memorial service will be held on March 21, 2026 at 1 pm at Samaritan Funeral Home. Online condolences can be made at www.samaritanfunerals.com.
