Mr. Joseph Thomas Harrison

HARRISON, Joseph Thomas, 89, of Tampa, passed away on March 24, 2009. Born July 13, 1919 in Leola, Arkansas, he had been a resident of Tampa since 1957. He retired from the U.S. Navy as a Chief Gunner’s Mate after over 20 years of service, serving in WWII and The Korean Conflict. Joe’s medals and awards include: American Defense, American Theatre, Asiatic-Pacific, WWII Victory Medal, European-African, Good Conduct Medal, China Service, Navy Occupation Medal, Korea Service Medal with 3 stars, United Nations Service Medal and National Defense Service Medal. Upon retiring from the Navy, Joe and his wife Ruth owned an electronics repair business, Harrison Electronics, in Tampa. Preceded in death by his wife Ruth C., one brother, Hamilton Harrison, two sisters, Christine Estrada and Florence Smith, and step son, David M. Boyd. Survived by daughter, Brenda M. Harrison, one brother, C.M. Harrison, three step grandchildren, Eve Meek, Dave Boyd and Charlotte Wilkinson, also four step great-grandchildren, Brett and Garrett Meek, Tristan Boyd and Jay Wilkinson. The family will receive friends on Monday March 30th from 10:00 a.m. until service time at 11:00 a.m. at Blount & Curry Funeral Home, 605 S. MacDill Avenue.
