Joseph Hartman Obituary

Joseph Lamar Hartman, age 92, of Quakertown, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully in his sleep on December 10, 2021 at his home in Quakertown, PA. He was the devoted husband of Marcella (Davco) Hartman, with whom he shared over 41 years of marriage. Born September 26, 1929 in Allentown, PA, he was a son of the late Harvey Hartman and the late Florence (Shelly) Hartman.

Joseph graduated from Quakertown High school in 1947. He served our country in the US Army during the Korean War from 1951 - 1953. He went on to work in the construction industry as a Philadelphia Union Carpenter with W.M. Moyer Co., and later as a Project Manager for Biehn Construction Co. Within months of his first retirement at the age of 65, he opted to go back to work as a Courier for North Star Construction Management Co. where he retired for the second time at age 85. Adoringly, his co-workers called him "Pop-Pop."

Joseph loved life. Every day was a glorious day. He found beauty in the mundane, enjoyed telling colorful jokes, listening to jazz and blues music, reading, and following his beloved Philadelphia Eagles, Phillies, and 76er's.

He will be remembered for his jovial and good-natured disposition. He was a kind, decent man who was most proud of his blended family. Children: James Hartman (Belinda), L. Joseph Hartman, Marjorie Swart (Randy), and Jeffrey Hartman, grandchildren: Holly Daughtry (Chris), Jacob, Megan, Stephen, Michael, and Grant Hartman, Madison Swart, and William Swart; great grandchildren, Evan Daughtry, Trevor Daughtry, and Asher Banks; stepdaughter Denise Gentile (Jim); step grandchildren, Jessica Lang (Michael), Nicole Schoch (Christoper); step great grandchildren, Corrina Banks and Jakob Banks. Other survivors include his former wife Dorothy (Grant) Kilmer with whom he and Marcella remained friends, sister in-law Betty (Troutman) Hartman and nephew Thomas Hartman. He was predeceased by a brother Harvey Hartman and a nephew John Hartman.

Services will be private at Quakertown Union Cemetery. Contributions in Joe's memory may be made to American Legion Post 242, 610 E. Broad St, Quakertown, PA 18951. Arrangements are by Naugle Funeral & Cremation Service, 215-536-3343. To view his online obituary please visit www.nauglefcs.com

We were so sad to hear of Joe's passing. He was our next door neighbor when we lived on Franklin Street. He always made us laugh with his crazy sense of humor and was such a nice guy. We will remember him fondly. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Marcy and the entire family.
