Joseph Headden Obituary
Joseph Headden, 91, of St. Matthews passed away on Wednesday, December 6, 2023, after an extended illness. He was born on May 26, 1932, in Orangeburg. He was the son of the late Benjamin C. Headden and the late Marie Williams Headden.
Joseph served his country in the United States Army for over 22 years as a traffic manager before retiring with the title of Master Seargent. During his service in the military Joseph was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam war. He was a dedicated member of Mizpah Baptist Church in St. Matthews, S.C. He also believed in supporting the community and was a faithful contributor to the Fort Motte Fire Department.
He was known for his friendly nature and never met a stranger. He will be deeply missed by his sister, Thelma Roebuck (Peter); sisters-in-law, Carolyn Headden, and Dixie Headden; a special niece, Joni Headden Whisenhunt (Steve) and a number of nieces and nephews. Joseph was preceded in death by his wife, Lila Headden, his daughter, Janet Ruth Headden, his son, Michael Headden; brothers, Charley Headden, Jimmy Headden, James Headden and a sister, Hazel Ann Windham.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, December 9, 2023, at Mizpah Baptist Church, 289 Ft. Motte Road, St. Matthews. Burial will follow at the church cemetery with full military honors. Rev. Robert Carroll will be officiating.
The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00 A.M. on Saturday, December 9, 2023, at Mizpah Baptist Church prior to the funeral service.
Pallbearers will be the United States Army service members.
