Joseph Robert "Bob" Hoeffler, a devoted public servant, accomplished businessman, and beloved family man, passed away on August 6, 2025, in Cranford, New Jersey. He was 94 years old.
Born on November 1, 1930, in Elizabeth, New Jersey, Bob lived a life marked by dedication-to his country, his community, his faith, and most importantly, his family. His early years were shaped by strong values instilled by his parents, Joseph and Rose Hoeffler.
In 1950, Bob answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He served with distinction until 1955 and was entrusted with overseeing radar technology-an essential role that reflected both his technical acumen and sense of responsibility. After his return from the military he met and married the love of his life Gloria and they were married for almost 67 years until her passing in 2022.
Bob embarked on a remarkable professional journey. Starting in the mailroom of a company whose name he would one day lead as President, he exemplified perseverance and leadership throughout his career. His entrepreneurial spirit later led him to become a business owner. Beyond the private sector, Bob dedicated himself to public service in Cranford. He served as Mayor and Planning Board Commissioner and later as Executive Director of the Cranford Chamber of Commerce-roles through which he helped shape the town he loved so dearly.
A devout Catholic throughout his life, Bob was a longtime parishioner at St. Michael's Church in Cranford. For over 30 years, he served faithfully as an usher-a role he held with great pride and reverence.
Bob's greatest joy came from his family. He is lovingly remembered by his son Charles Hoeffler and daughter-in-law Linda Massessa; daughter Barbara Hummel and son-in-law Michael Manno; and sister Joan Dewar. His legacy continues through his grandchildren: JJ Hoeffler (wife Jenny), RJ Hummel, Justin Hoeffler, Lucas Hoeffler, Tara Tucker (husband Mike Tucker), Chelsea Matech (husband Monday), and Rebecca Hoeffler (husband Luis). He was also blessed with great-grandchildren: Landon Hoeffler, McKenzie Hoeffler, Gryffen Matech, Austin Matech, George Tucker, and Johnathan Tucker, Nick Matech and Gina Matech.
Bob's life was one of purpose and impact-marked by service to others and unwavering commitment to doing what was right. Whether leading a company or guiding a community board meeting, ushering at church or sharing stories with grandchildren around the dinner table-he brought integrity and warmth to every role he held.
May Joseph Robert "Bob" Hoeffler's memory be a source of comfort to all who knew him and an enduring example of a life well lived. A Memorial Service will be held on September 22, 2025, at 10:00 AM at St. Michael's Church Alden Street
