JOSEPH ISAAC MAESTAS
Joseph Isaac Maestas, born February 2, 1992, was a lifelong resident of Ranchos de Taos. He suddenly passed away on Thursday, October 23, 2025.
He was preceded in death by his father, Manuel Martin Maestas Jr.; grandfathers Tony Romo, Frank Arellano, and Wilbert Vigil; great-grandfather Joe Alex Maestas Sr.; and grandmother Elizabeth Durance.
Joseph is survived by his mother, Chloe Arellano; great-grandmother, Josie Maestas; grandmothers, Elma Vigil and Roberta Romo; mother-in-law, Mary Jo Romero (John); his loving wife and high school sweetheart, Marissa Romero Maestas; and his three sons, Leo, Nathanael, and Miklo Maestas. He is also survived by his siblings, Vanessa Maestas (Francisco), Megan Sandoval (Ashley), and Matthew Maestas; nephews, Manuel and Elijah Castillo and Ezeden Maestas; and his very close cousin, who was like a brother, Conner Romo. He is also survived by many uncles, aunts, cousins, and good friends.
Joe was well known for his great smile, sense of humor, and humble, generous spirit in helping anyone in need. He was a longtime employee at CID's Food Market in Taos for over ten years, where he was a dedicated worker and a friend to everyone.
He adored his wife and sons and always made sure they had everything they needed. Joe lived life to the fullest, spending his days surrounded by family and close friends. He loved fast bikes and cars-the power and adrenaline of racing them brought him great joy. Joe was an incredible man, a wonderful husband, father, and friend to many.
An upcoming event will be held in memory of Joe Maestas. CID's Food Market will host a Burger Stand on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, from 11:00AM to 1:00PM to raise money for his wife and sons. Donations are also being accepted inside CID's.
A Rosary will be recited on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, at 9:00AM, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00AM. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Talpa Cemetery. After the burial, a meal will be served at 1:30PM at St. Joseph's Hall.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Conner Romo, Anthony Trujillo, Angel Medina, Joshua Sandoval, Joshua Casados, Pancho (Francisco) Castillo, Douglas Crumley, Terrance Vigil, Benito Vigil Sr., Benito (Ben) Vigil Jr. and Matthew Maestas. Honorary pallbearers are Leo, Nathanael, Manuel, and Elijah.
The family of Joseph Isaac Maestas has entrusted the care of their loved one to the caring staff of DeVargas Funeral Home of Taos.
