Joseph Kunkle Obituary

Joseph A. Kunkle

Joseph A. Kunkle passed peacefully on July 5, 2025, in his home, surrounded by family.

He was born on April 10, 1931, in Effort, Pennsylvania, to Harry and Elsie (Scheller) Kunkle. He lived a life full of love, dedication and adventure.

Joe married the love of his life, Bettie George, on Oct. 2, 1954, and together they cherished 70 wonderful years of marriage and raised three children, Amy, Scott and Jamy.

A proud veteran, Joe served our country with honor in the Korean War from 1952 to 1954 as part of the 3rd Recon Co., 3rd Infantry Division.

Upon returning home, he continued his career as a truck driver before opening Kunkle's Garage and Cycle Shop in 1975. The shop became a community fixture, operating until 2001, performing auto repair and motorcycle sales and service.

Joe had a positive outlook on life and a passion for the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and attending car shows, and he had a deep love for motorcycles, which included his CZ MX motorcycle racing team. His winters spent in Florida were filled with fun, fishing and relaxation.

Family was the cornerstone of Joe's life. He is survived by his devoted wife, Bettie (George) Kunkle; his loving daughter, Jamy DeHaven; and his cherished grandchildren, Desire Mahanna, Danielle Amil, Jennifer Rolling, Joey Kunkle, Jared DeHaven and Jody Pieper. Joe's legacy continues through his seven great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

He was also predeceased by his son, Scott Kunkle; daughter, Amy Cardiello; and brothers, Kenneth, Floyd, Larry, Carl and Earl.

Joe will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family, his positivity and his "It is what it is" mentality. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

Service: A visitation will be held on Thursday, July 10, from 10-11 a.m. in the Kresge Funeral Home, 1763 Route 209, Brodheadsville. A Celebration of Life with sharing of words and remembrances will follow at 11 o'clock at the funeral home. Interment of the cremated remains and full military honors will follow the service at Middle Creek Cemetery, Kresgeville. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his name may be made to the American Legion Post 927, P.O. Box 335 Gilbert, PA 18331, or to St. Luke's Hospice-Development Office, 801 Ostrum St. Bethlehem, PA 18015. www.kresgefuneralhome.com.
