Death Notice

Joseph W. Ladson

1940 - 2024

A Time To Be Born
Joseph Walter Ladson was born August 29, 1940 in Reevesville, SC, to the late Walter and Rosebud Hampton-Ladson. He was the third of four children and all of his siblings preceded him in death, Frances Cummings, John Ladson, and Willie James Ladson.
A Time To Love
In 1965, on February 27th, he married the love of his life, Margie Ravenell. This union was blessed with four baby boys: John Edward, Joseph Carl, Victor Alexander and Wayne.
A Time To Embrace
At an early age, Jospeh joined Greenville United Methodist Church and accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior. He faithfully served on the usher board and the male chorus. He was also always willing to help whenever needed for the upbuilding of the church. After the merger of churches, he served faithfully at New Grace United Methodist Church, in the same capacities, until his health began to decline.
A Time To Gather and Build Up
In 1962, Joseph graduated from Williams Memorial High School. After graduating, he held many positions as he provided graciously for his family. However, there was one job that he enjoyed the most, Westvaco Lumber, that became his final place of employment. Joseph worked diligently at Westvaco for 35 years until his retirement. During his tenure, being the warmhearted, friendly person that he was, he gained many friendships that lasted his lifetime.
A Time To Laugh and Speak
Joseph was a man of many words! He NEVER met a stranger. He would laugh and talk with anyone that he could. And he could talk for hours and not get tired. He was a lover of people and portrayed such on a daily basis.
He leaves to cherish all of his fond memories, his loving wife, Margie, of almost 59 years; his sons, John, Carl (Joyce), Victor and Wayne; a granddaughter reared in the home as his own, Katrina Ladson; his adopted daughters, Helen Asbury and Sheree' Ladson; ten grandchildren, Katrina Ladson, Sheketa Gardner, Dr. Leticia Sellers, Sineice Ladson, DeWayne Ladson, Jaquawna Ladson, Jonathan Ladson, Asia Ladson, Dominique Ladson and Bella Rosebud Ladson; six great grandchildren; two brothers-in-law, James Frazier of Maryland and Robert Ravenell of North Carolina; two sisters-in-law, Margaret Hallman of Summerville, SC and Barbara Ladson of Spartanburg, SC; two special nephews, John Clayton Ladson and Bernard Cummings; a special friend and caretaker, Sandra Gardner and one special friend, Julius Grayton; a host of other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
