Joseph Leykam Obituary

Joseph "Lance" Leykam, 60, passed away Sunday, May 22, 2022 in St. Louis.

Lance was born March 13, 1962 in Washington to Keith and Maxine (nee Lamb) Leykam.

Lance grew up in Washington,and attended Our Lady of Lourdes Grade School. He graduated from St. Francis Borgia High School in 1980. After high school, he continued his education and graduated from Columbia College in 1986 with a bachelor's degree in biology. He moved to Los Angeles, California to work for Panavision, pursuing his career and interest in cinematography.

He was united in marriage to Karen Peters on May 25, 1991 at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church in Washington. The couple made their home in Los Angeles and their marriage was blessed with three sons. The family returned to Washington in 1996.

Lance worked primarily in sales and marketing throughout the course of his career. He was employed by Northwestern Mutual, TruGreen Lawn Care, Missouri Farm Bureau Insurance, and he owned and operated JLL Enterprises. For the past 4 1/2 years, Lance served as Vice President of Business Development with DOTec Engineering. He was a member of the Baileys Creek Cemetery Board in Osage County, St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church, and First Christian Church in Washington.

Lance lived life to its fullest and found joy in a variety of hobbies and interests. He was an outdoorsman who loved hunting, hiking, fishing and spending time at the family farm in Aud, Missouri. Lance also loved music and enjoyed playing the guitar and dancing. Throughout his life, Lance had an interest in cinematography and enjoyed making movies.

His love of fireworks earned him the title of pyromaniac among family and friends and he was an unofficial sommelier when it came to red wine. Lance found joy and interest anywhere his journey in life took him, but his true happiness was spending time with his family and friends. He loved get-togethers, grilling for family events, and the many opportunities he was blessed with to spend time with those he loved.

He is survived by his wife Karen Leykam, Washington; three sons, Josh Leykam and wife Paige, Phoenix, Arizona, Jordan Leykam and wife Krista, Kansas City, Jonah Leykam and fianc^e Liz Burnier of Chicago, Illinois; his mother, Maxine Leykam of Washington; three grandchildren, Addison Leykam, Lydia, Leykamm, Henry Leykam; two sisters: Mary "Loren" Post and husband Mark of Colleyville, Texas, Shanon Feltmann and husband Jeff of Kirkwood; one brother, Shawn Leykam, Washington; sister-in-law, Ann Skornia, Washington; brother-in-law, Tom Peters and wife Patricia of St. Louis; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.

Lance was preceded in death by his father, Keith Leykam; parents-in-law, Eldo and Rita Peters; grandson, Jack Leykam; and brother-in-law, Larry Skornia.

Funeral services were held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 31 at Oltmann Funeral Home in Washington with Rev. Mike Boehm officiating.

Interment was held privately.

Donations may be made to the Lance Leykam Memorial Fund (checks payable to Karen Leykam).

The Leykam family was served by Oltmann Funeral Home in Washington,.
