Joseph Edward Lowery, 83, of Enon, Virginia, passed away peacefully on January 27, 2026. Born on February 1, 1942, in Robeson County, North Carolina, Joseph was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, and a faithful servant to his church and community. Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Ethel Lowery; his brothers, Willie Lowery Jr., John Wesley Lowery, Samuel Lowery, Wallace Lowery, and Frank Lowery; and his eldest granddaughter, Brittany Long.
He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Brenda Lowery; his children, Darlene Harris (Bobby Harris) and Asa Gunnoe (Linda Gunnoe); his grandchildren, Jenna Dunn, Erica Harris, and Shelby Peers; and numerous great-grandchildren who brought him immense joy. He is also survived by his sisters, Barbara Locklear and Sandra Blanks; his sister-in-law, Sandra Lowery; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Joseph retired from American Filtrona after many years of dedicated service. He was a faithful member of Broadway Baptist Church for over 40 years, where his commitment to his faith and church family was evident to all who knew him. In his free time, Joseph found great joy tending to his beautiful garden and took pride in maintaining the greenest grass possible. Known for his green thumb, he found peace and purpose in caring for the land he loved.
Joseph will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of love, faith, hard work, and devotion to family will forever live on in the hearts of those he leaves behind.
A funeral service will be held on February 9, 2026, at 2:00 p.m., at the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes Crater Road Chapel, 3935 South Crater Road, Petersburg, Virginia 23805. Family will receive friends at 12:00 p.m. Followed by a graveside service at 3:00 p.m. at Southlawn Memorial Park 1911 Birdsong Road, South Prince George, Virginia 23805.
