Joseph Macaluso Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by John F Givnish Funeral Home - Academy Rd on Jan. 29, 2026.
Joseph Vincent Macaluso, born March 13, 1948, in Queens, New York, passed away on January 25, 2026.

Joseph was preceded in death by his beloved mother and father, as well as his cousin, Anthony Parlatore. He is survived by Anthony's wife, Vickie Parlatore of West Palm Beach, Florida, and by his best friend, Michael Schmidt of Cape Coral, Florida.

Joe proudly served his country as a United States Army Vietnam Veteran from March 1968 to March 1970. In recognition of his service and sacrifice, he was awarded the Purple Heart, the Good Conduct Medal, and the Vietnam Service Medal with four Bronze Service Stars.

Joe spent many years working as a salesman for Bloomingdale's on Long Island, where he met his life long friend Lenny Scaparro. After relocating to Philadelphia in 1994, he continued his career in sales with Today's Man and K&G Warehouse.

A gentle and loving man with a heart of gold, Joe had a gift for conversation and never met a stranger. If there was music, Joe was dancing. He especially cherished vacations to Rehoboth Beach with Anita Kinsley, Mike Schmidt, the late Taylor Anderson, and his dear friend Bob Lucas.

In later years, though Joe had no immediate family, he was lovingly "adopted" by the Schmidt family and deeply enjoyed many years of family gatherings and shared memories. After an illness in 2016, Joe became a devoted Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies fan, finding great joy in cheering on his teams.

Joe was fortunate to have Steve Angel in his life as a trusted chauffeur, shopping companion, and lunch buddy. With the kindness and support of loving neighbors Jessica Charwin and Ed Johnson, Joe's everyday life became more relaxed and joyful. Their companionship and helpfulness meant the world to him.

A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.

In Joe's memory, contributions may be made to any U.S. veteran association or to organizations supporting caring animal facilities.
