Joseph J. Maneri, 57, of Harrisburg, passed away on Tuesday, July 2, 2024. Joe was born in Wrightstown, New Jersey, spending the younger stages of his life in South Carolina and New York. Joe was always especially fond of his teenage and adult years spent living in the Bronx and he and his brothers shared many memories and laughs from this time.
Although earlier on he prided himself as a professional mover, this never stopped his entrepreneurial drive experimenting with various business ideas over the years. His latest role was as a machine operator with HR HealthCare in York. He spoke highly of his company and especially the great team of guys he worked with on the night shift.
Joe lived in Steelton for a number of years and was an active member of the Fifth Ward Republican Club. He enjoyed fish bowls with his many friends there at the club, who nicknamed him 'Joe Provolone'. Joe's brothers often accompanied him there as well, where memories were shared and topics debated.
Joe touched the minds and hearts of many throughout his life in a variety of different ways. His kids like to say he was definitely one-of-a-kind and they know anyone who knew him would agree.
He truly enjoyed talking to people. He was incredibly inquisitive and had a deep passionate concern for the state of the world and humanity as a whole. He was an intense researcher and enjoyed speaking about complex world issues and big ideas. No conversation with Joe could ever be monotonous or dull and he loved to say things that really made people think.
Regardless of what the mood or situation was, he would always find a witty way to crack an old joke or movie reference here and there. Joe cherished the times he spent with family, which were very often full of laughs.
He enjoyed listening to music and had a wide array of taste from the 70's, 80's, and 90's. His favorite movies over the years to watch were Italian gangster movies. For many years he was a loyal New York Giants fan and enjoyed spirited football talk with his brothers. Joe had a deep appreciation for the concept of human freedom and believed that Costa Rica, where he long dreamed of moving to, exemplified the essence of living without constraints.
He will forever be remembered for his personable, friendly, and lighthearted nature, his love for learning and spreading information, his wildly charismatic personality, and his natural ability to relate to anyone, anywhere, at any time. Joe will truly be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Surviving him are his Harrisburg-based family; his daughter, Jessica A. Maneri, his son, Joshua M. Maneri, his mother, Joan Morales, his 3 brothers; Phillip Maneri, Charles Maneri, and Michael Maneri (Mindy), his 4 nieces and 1 nephew. He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Daniel Morales.
