On the morning of December 23, 2024, Joseph “Joe” Paul Martin passed away at the age of 87 at Mission Hospital in Asheville, NC.
Joe was born and raised in Queens NY. He built his first home in Miller Place, NY where he and his wife Joanna raised their four children, Deborah, Christine, John and James. A US Army Veteran, Joe spent his entire career with Bell Systems and NY Telephone as a lineman, engineer and district manager, before retiring in 1991 and relocating to Penrose, NC.
Joe was fiercely dedicated to his family and loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He enjoyed woodworking, designing and creating things in his workshop, spending time with friends camping and hunting, building and supporting his new community in Penrose. Volunteering at Sacred Heart Church in Brevard, NC and exploring the natural beauty of his new home in the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Anna and his granddaughter Lily. He is survived by his loving wife Joanna of 62 years, his children Deborah (Michael), Christine (Patrick), John (Kristen) and James (Colleen), his sixteen grandchildren, his two great-grandchildren, and his sisters Marion (Frederick) and Carol.
Graveside Services for Joe will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, December 30, 2024 at Blue Ridge Gardens of Memory in Pisgah Forest, NC with Father Shawn O’Neal officiating. Arrangements for a Memorial Mass will be announced at a later date.
