Joseph J. McAteer, age 79, passed away peacefully Monday, May 26, 2014 at his home in Lansdowne, PA surrounded by his children and their families. Loving father of Joseph (Carla)McAteer ,of Newtown Square, John McAteer of Drexel Hill, Thomas (Maria) McAteer of Springfield, Anne Marie (James) Tomosky of Drexel Hill , and Edith (William) Petransky of Lansdowne. Devoted grandfather of 18, great-grandfather of 18. Dear brother of Alice Foley, Bill (Rosemary) McAteer, Jim (Jeanette) McAteer, Francis (Jean) McAteer, brother-in-law of Patricia McAteer. Preceeded in death by his siblings; Mary Wheeler, Margaret Yost, John (Joyce) McAteer, and Tom McAteer. Former husband and lifelong friend of the late Edith "Sissy " McAteer. Born in Philadelphia and raised in Collingdale, PA Joe worked for over 40 years as a machinist at Sorenson Industries. He was later self-employed as a builder and built many homes in the Newtown Square area. Whether you knew him as "Mac" , "Jeep", or "Pop-Pop Mac", he was recognized as a fiercely loyal, dedicated patriarch of his family. He will be truly missed by his loving family, and the many people he met through his life. Relatives and friends are invited to Mac's Life Celebration on Thursday, May 29, 2014 from 7 to 9 PM , and Friday May 30, 2014 from 9 to 10 AM in Spencer T. Videon of Drexel Hill, PA 19026(corners of Shadeland Ave. and Garrett Rd.) Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated Friday at 10:30 AM in St. Charles Borromeo Church, 3422 Dennison Ave, Drexel Hill, PA 19026. Interment Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery.
