Joseph Eugene Mentzell, 77 of Mt. Airy, MD passed away at home on Friday, August 29, 2025.
He was the beloved husband of the late Carol June Mentzell (nee Boteler) for 53 years.
Born December 7, 1947, in Baltimore, MD the son of the late William Eugene Mentzell Jr. and the late Edna Vivian Mentzell (nee Peddicord).
Joseph enjoyed painting and cooking and baking and was well known for his homemade rolls. He also started multiple businesses and enjoyed some success with DataMagic. He retired from Digital Receiver Technology in Germantown.
He is survived by his children Jonathan “Jon” Brant Mentzell & wife Kimberly and Gregory James Mentzell & wife Christy; grandchildren; Zachary Joseph Mentzell, Alexander William Mentzell, Nicholas George Mentzell, Thomas Stanley Mentzell and Step granddaughter Morrighan Averyl Rayne Warburton. Also survived by sisters Bonnie Eckels and her husband Kevin and Shirley Harold.
Preceded in death by sisters Joannie Radcliffe and Jeannie Perez.
Family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, from 11 AM to 12 Noon at which time the funeral service will begin at 12 Noon, at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, P.A. 1212 West Old Liberty Road Sykesville, MD 21784 (beside South Carroll High School).
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be sent to the National Foundation for Cancer Research 5515 Security Lane, Suite 1105 Rockville, MD 20852.
