I learned of Joe´s passing recently when another pilot I fly with at American told me the news. Joe did my initial CFI many years ago at N87. He always stayed in touch and encouraged and mentored me throughout my early flying career. Now, here I am a captain at legacy following in Joe´s giant footsteps. For that I´m forever grateful. I still look forward to taking that long motorcycle ride one day with you Joe.

Best,

Just heard about Joe´s passing. While we grew up in the same West Pullman neighborhood in Chicago and our parents were long time dear friends, Joe had a few years on me. Glad we had a chance to talk last year. I´m forever grateful for your pointing me towards the Spruce Creek Fly-in in Florida. On Angels wings - Rest in Peace.

I only had the opportunity to fly with Joe once when he renewed my flight instructor certificate after I let it lapse. I think we did more reminiscing than anything else that flight.
Although we did not fly together but once I enjoyed many many conversations with Joe over the years, he was an inspiration to many pilots and was a true professional. I am so sorry I was not able to attend his memorial.

Pam and I send our love, prayers and condolences June.

Joe was an incredible person. He was kind and generous with his time and advicel; I was fortunate to have interacted with him over time as an instructor, tow pilot and examiner. He had a real wicked sense of humor and really reminded us all how to remember and enjoy the important things in life; family and friends. I can still see him roll up in his bright yellow jacket on his pristine Harley for another day in the skies.

Joe was an amazing person and aviator. He taught me much about the skills and art of flying a glider. He was my instructor on getting my commercial glider rating. His directness and sense of humor certainly came from a strong love for whatever he was doing, especially if it had to do with flying. I will miss him.

Joe was a truly great aviator, instructor/examiner and human being. He treated all evenly with dignity and respect. I always enjoyed our conversations immensely.

Joe was an incredibly generous person in sharing some of a lifetime of aviation- & life-wisdom, as well as endless humor. I was very fortunate in having had Joe teach me a lot about flying and then having the courage to solo me in a glider despite it being a very windy day. He also showed me that while flying was serious business requiring great attention to detail, it also could and should be lots of fun! I can still hear his cowboy-like "Heee Haaaa" from the back seat in our Grob103 as we rode wave lift for my first time in what seemed like a magical smooth elevator ride. What a great flight- and life-instructor. I miss you Joe but will forever continue to have fun with you while flying. You remain one of the most generous people and teachers I´ve ever known.

Joseph was my examiner on many check-rides. He was professional in every way possible. I always remembered him even decades after we had our time together. So sorry for your loss and may he have tailwinds to the heavens.
