Joseph Thomas Murphy

Joseph "Joe" Thomas Murphy Jr., a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on December 1, 2025, in Newport News, Virginia, at the age of 80. Born on June 5, 1945, in Ohio, Joe lived a life marked by dedication to his family and service to his country.

Joe proudly served in the United States Air Force for 20 years, where he exemplified commitment and integrity. Following his distinguished military career, he continued his service to the nation through 20 years of civil service, contributing his skills and expertise to the betterment of his community.

In his personal life, Joe was known for his passion for golfing and his talent for building and fixing computers. These interests brought him joy and allowed him to connect with friends and family over shared hobbies.

Joe is preceded in death by his beloved parents, Joseph T. Murphy Sr. and Virginia Glenn Murphy, and his cherished granddaughter, Devondra Asevedo. He leaves behind a loving family who will forever hold his memory dear: his devoted wife of 60 years, Carol Murphy; his daughters, Katheryn Gilbride (Kenneth) and Rebecca Asevedo (Bud); his son, John Murphy; his grandchildren, Dustin Asevedo and Dimree Asevedo; and his great-grandchildren, Leilani Asevedo and Uriah Asevedo. Joe is also survived by his sisters, Ruth Ann Novak, Barbara Struble (Jim), Pat Murphy, and Donna Murphy, as well as his brother-in-law, R. Eric Seaman.

A family memorial service will be held at a later date to honor Joe's life and legacy. His family and friends will remember him as a man of quiet strength, unwavering loyalty, and deep love for those he held dear.
