Joseph M. Parson, 75, born in Philadelphia, PA, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on January 25, 2024. Loving husband to Linda (nee Brown). Devoted and adored Father of Megan Kelly (Kevin), Mary Kathleen, Joseph (Erin) and Elizabeth Berkery (James). The best Pop Pop to Kevin, Catie Jane, Joseph, Brigid, Benjamin Matthews, and Charlie Matthews. Stepfather to Jenn Matthews (Andrew Steiner) and Charles Matthews (Samantha). Step grand pop to Jax Steiner. Brother to Thomas (Terry), Anthony (Patricia), Christopher (Sheryl), Bill (Jane) and brother-in-law to Linda. Long time friend of former wife Eileen Monahan. Beloved Uncle to many. Predeceased by his parents and brothers, James and Michael.
Joseph was the oldest of 7 boys from Merritt Square, Philadelphia, and a graduate of North Catholic High School for Boys class of 1966, where he captained the football team and later was inducted into their Football Hall of Fame. He was a distinguished veteran of the United States Marine Corps having served his country honorably in Vietnam.
He served the citizens of Philadelphia proudly as a member of the Police Department attaining the rank of Captain while also earning a bachelor's degree from Temple University.
Upon retiring from the Police Department, he entered the field of nursing, giving back and working with Veterans at the VA in
Cape May, NJ.
He spent his retirement on the farm he loved- turning wood, fishing, and enjoying life with his family. He will be dearly missed and always remembered as the wonderful person he was. Everyone who met Joe liked him and many of us were lucky enough to call him family.
Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 31, 2024, at 12:00 p.m. at the Radzieta Funeral Home, 9 Hand Avenue,
Cape May Court House, NJ, where viewing will begin at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be private.
