Joseph Henry “Red” Peeno, 83, passed away on Thursday, January 25, 2023 at his home. He is survived by his loving wife, Sheila; his daughter, Jennifer (Joe) Von Lehman; his son, Jeffery (Alison) Peeno; eight grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his wife, Janice and his son, Joey. Joseph had a zest for life and never sat still. His inner circle of St. Henry High School friends remained close until his death. He was the first person in his family to go to college, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering at University of Kentucky. He opened the SubStation II in Florence, KY and in Fort Wright, KY, where he cemented his place in the community, building friendships and ensuring not only quality food but also making his customers feel truly cared for and seen. Joe loved people, and this is evident in the friendships that he built and maintained throughout his life and in the way he selflessly cared for his family. Even upon retirement from his restaurant, he couldn’t keep still. He could often be seen volunteering at Covington Catholic High School, Blessed Sacrament Church, Catholic Charities, and Cincinnati Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired. He loved to travel and was more socially active than most. After the passing of Janice, Joseph began a new hobby, dancing, which is where he met Sheila. Joe was upbeat, positive, and friendly, which could be witnessed at Covington Catholic football games or the many events he attended to cheer on his grandchildren. Many in Northern Kentucky affectionately referred to him as the Mayor Of Reality Tuesday Coffee Shop in Park Hills. Even when life dealt him a bad hand, Joe would remind those around him to find peace in accepting God’s will. As Joe would say, “Remember, there is always something to be thankful for.” Services will be held at Blessed Sacrament Church in Fort Mitchell on Friday, February 2. The family will welcome you for visitation from 5:00pm-6:00pm, a Memorial Mass at 6:00pm, and a reception to celebrate Joe following the mass in the church undercroft. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Diocesan Catholic Children’s Home, Covington Catholic High School, and Catholic Charities.
