Joseph Paul Perkins, 79, of Jones Ridge, Clearfield, Kentucky, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 7, 2024 at his home.
He was born on October 13, 1944 in Rowan County, Kentucky, a son of the late Alvin and Zelma Riddle Perkins.
Paul was employed by several businesses. He had worked at Beta Shoe Factory in Maryland, Lee Clay Plant in Clearfield, been a truck driver for Ready Mix, Lexington Concrete and Cloud Concrete and was a Deputy Jailer at the Rowan County Detention Center, where he retired in 2010. He was a tobacco and cattle farmer, as well.
He enjoyed spending time with his five border collies, “Ellie Mae”, “Shelby Lynn”, “Buckwheat”, “RoRo” and “Rocky”.
Paul was a member of the Upper Dry Creek Church of God.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Matthew Paul Perkins, an infant brother, Leroy Perkins and a brother-in-law, Billy Joe Noblett, who passed away on February 19, 2024.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Lennie Crose Perkins, whom he married on November 6, 1965, one daughter, Levonda Perkins Ingram and her husband, Rob of Clearfield, one granddaughter, Shana Colliver and her husband, John of Mt. Sterling, Kentucky, one grandson, Paul Thomas and his wife, Megan of Morehead, Kentucky, two great-granddaughters, Kylee Cooper and Mallory Colliver, three great-grandsons, Brycen Thomas, Brecken Thomas and Calvin Colliver, one sister, Helen Perkins Noblett of Clearfield and several cousins, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Thursday, April 11, 2024 in the chapel of the Michael R. Gray Funeral Home in Morehead with Brother Steve Madden officiating.
Burial will follow in the Perkins Family Cemetery which is on his farm on Jones Ridge.
Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
