Mr. Joseph R. Resta, Sr., 100, of Adel, passed away Monday June 25, 2012 at his residence. He was born August 8, 1911, in New York, New York to the late Ulderico Resta and Lucrezia Soreno Resta. Mr. Resta lived in Greenwood, Mississppi during his military service, then moved back to New York for 16 years, before residing in Fort Myers, Florida where he retired and then moved to Cook County 13 years ago. He attended St. John's Catholic Church in Valdosta, was a member of the Knights of Columbus where he has held every office, and was a veteran of WWII with the U.S. Army Air Corps. Mr. Resta also worked for Bloomingdale's while in New York, was employed as a geologist and oil driller in California, and was the owner of several service stations in Fort Myers. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Lena Belle Parrish Resta whom he met on a blind date and married January 20, 1945; three sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Marsha Resta of La Belle, FL, Bobby and Jan Resta of Adel, and Barry and Ellen Resta of Adel; seven granchildren, Sean and Annie Resta of Adel, Curtis and Anna Resta of Ray City, Andy and Ginger Resta of Dallas, TX, Clint and Karlene Resta of Dallas, TX, Melissa and Daniel Lynch of La Belle, FL, Chad and Margie Resta of Valdosta, and Amanda and James Ray of Adel; and twelve great-grandchildren. Mr. Resta was preceded in death by one brother. Funeral services for Mr. Resta will take place Friday June 29, 2012 at 3 pm in the Chapel of Boone Funeral Home with Deacon Ray Brown, Rev. James R. "Ricky" Pilcher, Rev. Ted Graham officiating and remarks by Sean and Curtis Resta. Interment will follow at Sylvester Cemetery in Cook County with military honors. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 7 until 9 pm at Boone Funeral Home, 1804 South Hutchinson Ave. (U.S. Hwy 41 South) in Adel. The Knights of Columbus will serve as Honor Guard during the visitation.
