Joseph Brian “Jody” Robinson, 55, of Abingdon, Virginia, passed away on November 19, 2025, surrounded by the family who loved him endlessly.
Born to Joe and Linda Robinson, Jody grew into the kind of man people were simply better for knowing—a devoted husband, proud father, loving son, loyal brother, uncle, and the truest friend anyone could ask for. His personality filled every room: fun-loving, goofy, kind, hardworking, and sometimes a little hard-headed in the most endearing way. Jody had a way of making people laugh, feel welcome, and feel seen. He would help anyone in need, at any time, without hesitation.
Jody graduated from J.J. Kelly High School and went on to attend East Tennessee State University, where he completed his bachelor’s degree. He spent most of his professional life working as a biomedical engineer for Siemens and GE, a career that allowed him to use his sharp mind and steady hands to make a difference in countless lives.
Outside of work, Jody dedicated countless hours to coaching softball. He helped coach softball at Patrick Henry High School, as well as Glade Spring Little League and various travel softball teams, shaping young athletes with encouragement, determination, support, and his unmistakable sense of humor. Jody was very supportive of his daughters and their interests. He was so very proud of them and thought the world of his son in laws.
Jody's generosity was remarkable as he also gave the gift of life, donating bone marrow to a 2 yr old girl with aplastic anemia who today has grown into a healthy, beautiful young woman.
Above all else, Jody cherished his family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 35 years, Dawn Robinson; his daughters, Cara Robinson Stewart (Evan) and Lacy Robinson Rector (Lucas); his parents, Joe and Linda Robinson; his sister, Jennifer Tincher (Chris); and his nephew, Brandon Tincher. He had many wonderful cousins and also close friends he considered family. Each of them carries with them the warmth of his humor, the strength of his work ethic, and the love he gave so freely.
Jody was truly one of the best humans—a light, a protector, and a constant source of joy. His absence leaves an immeasurable void, but his spirit will live on in the stories shared, the laughter remembered, and the love he poured into the people around him.
Visitation will be held Monday, November 24, from 4:00–6:00 p.m. at Farris Funeral Home in Abingdon, Virginia, with a Celebration of Life service to follow at 6:00 p.m. A graveside service will take place on Tuesday, November 25, at 2:00 p.m. at Powell Valley Memorial Gardens in Big Stone Gap, Virginia. His cousin, Steve Robinson is the pastor. Pallbearers will be Evan Stewart, Lucas Rector, Brandon Tincher, Chris Tincher, Greg Stewart, and Neal Booth.
