Joseph Allen Schenck, known affectionately to many as "Jo Jo", was born on October 8, 1964, in Camden, New Jersey. Jo Jo's life was a testament to the beauty of resilience and the power of a generous heart. He was a man who, despite not having much, always had enough to share with others. A lover of food and an avid collector of vehicles, Jo Jo's life was rich in ways that truly matter. His zest for life was infectious, and his laughter was the kind that could light up even the darkest room. As Maya Angelou once said, "I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel." Jo Jo knew this truth and lived it every day.
In his prime, Jo Jo owned his own business, Anastasias Street Sweeping, showcasing his entrepreneurial spirit. His life was not without challenges, but Jo Jo tackled them head-on, and his resilience was truly awe-inspiring. He once lived out of his RV, a testament to his enduring spirit and adaptability. His love for life was infectious, and his heart was as vast as the open road. As Henry David Thoreau said, "The mass of men lead lives of quiet desperation. What is called resignation is confirmed desperation. From the desperate city, you go into the desperate country... A stereotyped but unconscious despair is concealed even under what are called the games and amusements of mankind." Jo Jo was a man who dared to live differently, to embrace the challenges of life with a smile and a kind word.
Joseph is survived by his sister, Dawn Schenck, and his brothers, Robert Jr., and Edward Schenck. He was a loving father to Joseph Robinson, Aaron Dejesus, and Jesenia Norris. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Schenck, and his siblings, Patricia (Patty) and Michael Schenck.
The viewing will be held on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, at 4:00pm EDT at the Macedonia Baptist Church, 351 High Street, Westville, New Jersey, 08093. This will be followed by a celebration of Jo Jo's life at 5:00pm EDT at the same venue.
