Joseph Scott Schneider

Joseph Scott Schneider, 45, died on Tuesday, March 31, 2009 in Clive. Joe was born in Kearney, Nebraska on September 24, 1963 to Dennis and Diane Schneider. He lived most of his life in Iowa, graduating from Ankeny High School. He attended the University of Iowa and lived in Phoenix for a few years, but later returned to Des Moines to help his father open a sporting goods store. Joe managed the store for 13 years. Joe's knowledge of sports and sports equipment and his out-going personality made him many friends and loyal customers. In September of 1998 Joe married Kelley Jackman. They had two sons, Zachary and Aiden. For the past few years, Joe was employed at Loffredo Fresh Produce. He really enjoyed his job and the people with whom he worked. Joe liked a lot of things; The Iowa Hawkeyes, Crosby, Stills and Nash, conservative politicians, apple crisp, Budweiser, his Red Wing work boots and fishing, but the most important part of his life was his devotion to his boys. He found immense joy in helping them carve race cars for their Boy Scout competition, or in just watching their little league games. Joe had lots of friends, many of whom go back as far as grade school and had maintained a close relationship over the years. Joe is survived by his wife, Kelley Jackman Schneider; two sons, Zachary age 9 and Aiden age 6; his mother, Diane Schneider; father, Dennis Schneider and his wife Mary; sister, Bari Wallace; grandmothers, Dorothy Schneider and Annabell Houts; parents-in-law, Janet and Chuck Jackman; sister-in-law, Stacey (Randy) Thomas; nephews, Scott Wallace and Jordan Thomas; nieces, Erin Wallace and Alexandra Thomas; uncles, Tony (Mary) Schneider, Jeff (Jane) Schneider and Bruce (Janet) Blackman; many cousins and extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Jim Houts and Tony Stephen Schneider and his uncles, Dale Houts and John Ryan Schneider. Visitation will be held at Iles Funeral Homes – Dunn's Chapel on Friday, April 3 from 5-7pm. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 4 at Lutheran Church of Hope (Ashworth Rd. and Jordan Creek Pkwy.) in West Des Moines.
