It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Joseph James Shipbaugh, fondly known as Joe by family and friends. On the morning of December 25, 2023, Joe peacefully passed in the presence of his home. Born on December 9, 1978, in Illinois, Joe’s charisma and charm had a way of touching anyone who had the pleasure of crossing his path.
Never without his trademark smile, Joe built his life on the values of hard work, generosity and family over everything. He found joy in helping others, even strangers and his selflessness was unparalleled. Joe made the world a brighter place by positively impacting many lives.
Joe also had a passion for the Chicago Cubs and was a devoted fan through thick and thin. His unwavering loyalty to the team was just one of the many attributes he translated into his daily life with those he loved; forever loyal.
In his final moments, Joe found solace with the love of his life, Marisa, whose steadfast strength and support provided peace during this difficult time.
Joe's passing has left a profound void in the lives of his family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Marisa Shipbaugh, their two children Tucker Hal and Charleston Adi Shipbaugh, his mother Nancy McGee and her husband Bobby, as well as his brothers Jason Shipbaugh and wife Chi, Jonathan Shipbaugh and wife Heather, and Jim Rippy and wife Megan. He was also adored by his grandmother Marge Zuehlke and several other extended family members. Joe was preceded in death by his father, Patrick Shipbaugh and his grandfather, Hal Zuehlke.
Joe’s memory is permanently etched in the hearts of many. He will undoubtably be remembered for his warmth, kindness, and love for all: humans, animals and nature.
The world is a better place because of his time here. May he now rest peacefully on the highest mountain in heaven.
A celebration of Joe’s legacy and life will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2024 at 1:00 pm at Davidson United Methodist Church, 233 South Main Street, Davidson, NC 28036. A gathering of family and friends will immediately follow at Red Rocks Café, 8712 Lindholm Dr, Huntersville, NC 28078.
