Joseph Smalley Obituary

Joseph Edgar Smalley, 85, of Pittston, peacefully went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus on Sept. 1, 2025, while surrounded by his family.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Catherine Bannon Smalley and Edgar Smalley, and brothers, John and Patrick Smalley, of Pittston.

He is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 64 years, Nina Argo Smalley; his three children, Joesph Smalley, of Pittston, Karen Cirelli, of Moosic, and Allison Weidl, of Florida; and sisters, Winifred Smalley and Maryann Speece, West Pittston. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Antonina Frances Cirelli, of Arlington, Ethan Cashwell, Aiden and Addison Weidl, of Florida, and Jessica Smalley, of Wyoming; and one great-grandchild, Adalynn Williams, of Wyoming.

Joe is a graduate of Pittston Area High School, Class of 1958. He was employed by RCA Corporation as a television repairman and WEA Manufacturing as an electronics technician. Joe retired from Tobyhannah Army Depot.

Joseph was a proud HAM Radio Operator, licensed by the FCC in the highest class of amateur radio operation, and was also a founding member of the Murgas Radio Club, of Wilkes-Barre. Joe provided emergency communication services as a HAM during the 1972 Agnes Flood and served in the National Guard.

Joe was an avid outdoorsman, whether hunting or fishing, spending countless days in the woods of Suscon, Pa.

He enjoyed drinking a cold beer at the VFW in Dupont, and at the head of his kitchen table. He will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to know him.

Thank you to the staff of Allied Hospice in Scranton for their professionalism, care and love in his final days.
