Joseph Fletcher Smiley, Jr.
Joseph Fletcher Smiley, Jr., 86, passed away on May 1, 2025. He was a native of Tampa, Florida where he attended public schools and then began his college studies at the University of Florida.
He married the love of his life, Pamela Logan, and was married for 64 years. He has three successful children, Shannon (& Jeff Karup), Logan and Kimberly, and three wonderful grandchildren, Preston, Kinsey and Marvin.
He spent 25 years in the banking business. He was very active in many civic groups along with being a member of Palma Ceia Golf & Country Club where he enjoyed playing golf. He also pursued a career in sales and management in the lumber and building products business before retiring in 2003.
He fell in love with the mountains of Western North Carolina in the 1940’s when his parents vacationed in Waynesville and would stay at the Piedmont Inn. He also attended Camp Arrowhead in Tuxedo for seven years.
He and Pam moved full time to Waynesville in 2004, where they were very active in the Master Gardeners Association and members of the First United Methodist Church of Waynesville.
The family will have a celebration of life on a future date.
The care of Mr. Smiley has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.
