Joseph Smith Obituary

Published by Swartz-Givnish Funeral Home, Inc. on Oct. 17, 2020.
Joseph E. Smith, at the age of 56, passed away on October 17, 2020 with his loving family by his side. Joseph was born December 7, 1963 in Dover, NJ to Dolores Smith (DelRio) and Joseph R. Smith. He is survived by his beloved wife Stephanie Smith (Kordulak) to whom he was devoted. He was also the loving brother to Bonnie Lavoie (Pat), Doreen Huston (Bryan), Lisa Lyons (Dave), and Jennifer Grozalis (Bob). He was preceded in death by his mother-Dolores, father-in-law- Richard Kordulak, nephew- TJ Brady and faithful companion Ashley. Joe was a truly gifted athlete and excelled at three sports in high school. He received the MVP award for football as a quarterback and his name still remains in the halls of Dover High School . He received a scholarship for football to Lafayette College and then finished his education at Montclair State University. He was a diehard sports fan and loved the Pittsburgh Steelers. Joe and his Dad made a special trip to Canton, OH to the Football Hall of Fame. He was a big man with a soft heart who would do anything for the people that he loved. He had a larger than life personality with a sense of humor to match. His wit and ability to make people laugh is something that has been passed down through the generations to his many nieces and nephews. Services will be held privately. A life celebration for Joe will be held virtually on Saturday, November 7 at 1 pm through Facebook Live. Details will be posted on Joe's Facebook page. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joseph's memory directly to his wife, Stephanie Smith, to help defray the cost of his hospitalization and funeral expenses. (Stephanie Smith, 123 Growler St., Gilberton, PA 17934)

I am so without words for your loss. I am a classmate and Joe was an awesome sweet heart of a person. It has been years since I've seen or heard from him, so this news is so saddening. I'm sending prayers of comfort to the family.
