Joseph Staggs Jr. was born on February 22, 1938, in Giles County, Tennessee, to the late Fred and Rosie Allen Staggs. He peacefully passed away on January 17, 2026, at Crockett Hospital in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee, at the age of 87, surrounded by love and memories of a life well lived.

Joseph shared 53 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Margaret Colvett Staggs. He was a devoted father to his daughter, Heather Staggs Garcia, and a cherished presence in the lives of his extended family: Anna and Russell Munson, Kameron Munson, Kennedy Munson, KoKo Munson, Aerica Moya, Kapri Munson, Reed Munson, and Kleo Munson, all of Texas City, Texas. He also leaves behind his treasured grand-puppies, Poppy and Everly, who brought him much joy.

Joseph was blessed with deep friendships and close family ties. He is survived by his lifelong best friend and sister, Ruby Sterchi; his sisters, Gail, Joyce, Janette, Debbie, and Sherry; and his brother-in-law and best buddies, PeeWee Colvett and Jerry Colvett.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Annette; his brothers, Ronnie and Dalton; his beloved son-in-law, Gabriel Garcia; and his beloved pets, Tina, Barkie, Charcoal, Matthew, and Homer, who were truly part of his family.

Joseph proudly served his country in the United States Army, spending four years stationed in Germany. He later worked for many years as a pipeliner in Texas, where his faith deepened profoundly. In 1984, he was baptized in the Holy Spirit at Bread of Life Church in Texas City, Texas, by Brother Walter Hallam. Three years ago, Joseph returned home to Tennessee, where he spent his later years surrounded by familiar places and cherished memories.

A lover of nature, Joseph found peace and happiness working in his yard, especially planting flowers alongside his neighbor and friend, Pat. He truly had a green thumb, and his gardens were a reflection of the care, patience, and love he showed throughout his life.

The family will hold a memorial service at a later date to celebrate Joseph’s life and legacy.
