From seeming obscurity in the Mississippi Delta I send my deepest condolences for one I never met, but who was a part of my family as I raised four children who now as adults can play, hum, sing, or whistle the score of Fiddler. When I took my grown daughters to a stage production at our Bologna Center of the Performing Arts at Delta State University in Cleveland, Mississippi, the opening curtain triggered nostalgia in all of us, and when I turned to look at them, tears of joy and anticipation were streaming down their faces. Thank you, thank you for your gift of love to MY family. I send our love to you now in this time of sorrow.

Sincere Condolences to the Joseph Stein Family. Mr. Stein has made a great and endless contribution to the "arts." A genius playwright he was. "Fiddler" continues to entertain us. It touches our hearts, as we identify with the story. The music is melodious, sensitive, and lively. "Fiddler" will live on "Forever."

Oh, my gosh - a flood of memories just hit me - and God bless you, Mr. Stein! I was 16 years old when I saw Fiddler in the movie theater. My friends and I were so excited about it that we sang the songs all the way home! "TRADITION!" Oh, my gosh. Thank you, thank you, thank you for sharing your talent and gifts with us. Why don't we have lovely films like this anymore? God bless you all. A great man is now gone...but not too far away. And the beauty of his talent lives on. Thank you and God bless you all.

Dear Mrs. Stein- I interviewed Mr. Stein a few years ago for an article for the Inge Festival. You may remember that he was going to receive an award, but got stuck in rehearsal and couldn't attend. I so enjoyed that interview- we spoke on the phone for hours, and he taught me so much. I'm only sorry I never got to meet him in person. In deepest sympathy, Anne Phelan

Mr. Stein was an exceptional man and you were extremely fortunate to have him in your lives as long as you did. "Fiddler on the Roof" has always been my favorite screenplay and my biggest regret was that I did not have access to see it performed in person.
