Joseph Summitt Obituary

Joseph F. Summitt Sr., 78, of Stewartsville, NJ, passed away peacefully at his home on April 24, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on July 8, 1946, in Phillipsburg, NJ, Joseph was the son of the late Truman and Kathleen Summitt (Lewis). He was a proud graduate of Phillipsburg High School, Class of 1965. Shortly after graduation, Joseph married the love of his life, Linda, and together they built a beautiful life and family.
Joseph worked for many years as a welder with JCP&L, retiring in 2008. Outside of work, he was a man of many passions. He loved hunting and fishing, and was a devoted softball player well into his later years. A true outdoorsman, Joseph also found joy in his garden and was especially known for his homemade pickles, which he shared generously with family and friends.
He is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 60 years, Linda; his children: Joseph Summitt Jr. and his wife Maria, Donna Summitt, and Jeremy Summitt and his wife Becky; and his cherished grandchildren: Jeremy, Hillory, Rachel, Maddie, and Emma. He is also survived by his siblings: Mary O'Neil, Truman Summitt, Kathleen Grover, Charlotte Morris, Christopher Summitt, and Phoebe Summitt Smith.
Family and friends are invited to attend visitation on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Warren Hills Memorial Home, 234 West Washington Ave., Washington, NJ 07882. A memorial service celebrating Joseph's life will follow at 12:00 PM at the funeral home.

Dear Linda, Joe, Donna, Jeremy, your spouses & your grandchildren, Our hearts are broken for the loss of Joe. Don & "Moe" had been great friends since high school. Linda, remember when Don & I met, he
told me that if you & Moe didn't like me...I was out! We loved the picnics together, the holidays we shared, watching your children grow into the beautiful adults & the terrific parents that they are, & our FUN vacations together!! There was no better Grandfather, then Joe. You both always lit up around your grandchildren .
No one had a better smile or a twinkle in his eyes then Joe. You are in our thoughts & in our prayers. God Bless You All. All our love, Don & Jackie Natisin

I was very sad to hear of the pasting of Moe! I met him freshman year at P'Burg High! We became good friends and were all through high school. Back then we all went into the military and we lost touch. Years later I saw him playing softball against me and it was like high school all over again! I remember him as a great guy that always said hello pasting in the halls. He will be missed! RIP Moe!

I went to elementary school with Joe but have not been in touch with him since then. I now live in Texas. Here is a photo of our kindergarten class at Shimer Manor school from which we went on to Warren Glen School. Joe is in the second row from the top, fourth from the left in the horizontal striped shirt. Condolences to the Summit family.
