Joe enjoyed family, friends, playing music and road trips on his Harley. He could tell the best stories and was liked by anyone who met him. Joe worked for Transalta USA in Centralia for 35 years, retiring in 2015 as a steam plant mechanic.
Joe is survived by his wife of 39 years, Kathleen Suydam; children, Angela Moye, of Everett, Washington, Leah Suydam, of Burlington, Washington, Rachel Rohlf, of Concrete, Washington, Jason Suydam, of McCleary, Washington, and Mary Arias, of Olympia, Washington; siblings, Rose Oram, of Tenino, Lorna (Steve) Stern, of Spanaway, Washington, DeAnn (Len) Collins, of Lacey, Washington, and Mike Hanson, of Cleveland, Ohio; and many nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Joe was preceded in death by his mother, Lois (Grilley) (Suydam) (Hanson) Reiste; father, Laverne Suydam; stepfather, Harry Hanson; stepfather, Charlie Reiste; and his great friend, John Stern.
A celebration of life for Joe will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 29, in the Tenino Middle School gym.
Arrangements are under the care of Funeral Alternatives of Washington in Tumwater.

I am so sorry to hear about Joes passing. Joe and I worked together for many years at the Centralia Power Plant. Joe was a great guy and a great workmate. Joe will be missed by all that knew him.

Joes stories are what I will always remember about Joe. He had a gift. A hard working man and always seemed to have a smile on his face. Had some good times together Joe!
