Joseph Vallone Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Shook's Cedar Grove Funeral Home, Inc. on Mar. 26, 2026.
Joseph D. Vallone, of Cedar Grove, N.J., passed away on March 24, 2026.

Born and raised in Jersey City, New Jersey, Joseph built his life on strong values of family, faith, service, and community. In 1971, he moved to Cedar Grove, where he would plant roots and become a well-known and deeply respected member of the town.

Joseph proudly served his country in the United States Army, carrying that same sense of duty and dedication into all aspects of his life. He went on to work for over 30 years at Annin Flag Company in Verona, N.J.

A devoted parishioner of St. Catherine of Siena Roman Catholic Church in Cedar Grove, Joseph was an active member of the parish community and generously gave his time as an usher. His commitment to service extended throughout Cedar Grove. He was a member of the C.G. Jaycees Club, served as President of the Cedar Grove Junior Baseball League, and was a former President of the Rotary Club, where he was honored with the distinguished Paul Harris Fellow Award. He also served as Chaplain of the Cedar Grove Ambulance Squad, offering comfort and support to many.

Joseph was a passionate and loyal New York Yankees fan, rarely missing a game and always ready to share his love of baseball with family and friends.

Above all, Joseph was a devoted family man. He is survived by his beloved wife, Ruth Vallone (née Toscani); his daughter Donna Malefyt and her husband Nick; and his cherished grandchildren, Nicholas and Christopher. He is also survived by his brother Ronnie Vallone and his wife Joanne, and his sister Linda DePalma and her husband Dan. Joseph will be fondly remembered by his nieces and nephews: Brian Topinka, Keith Topinka and his wife Darnel, Ronnie Vallone, and Kara Cortes and her husband Jorge.

Joseph will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, unwavering faith, and deep love for his family and community.

Family will receive friends and relatives on Friday, March 27, 2026 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m at Shook's Cedar Grove Funeral Home, 486 Pompton Ave, Cedar Grove, N.J. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, March 28, 2026 at 10 a.m. at St. Catherine of Siena Church, Cedar Grove, N.J.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105
