Joseph Weintraub Obituary

Joseph Harold Weintraub

April 18, 1953 - December 15, 2024

Joseph Harold Weintraub (aka Joe and later Yosi), was the only child of Paul and Dolores (Juster) Weintraub

of Tampa, Fla. Because of his great curiosity and hunger for learning, he became fascinated with numbers while playing

cards with his Grandma Jessie and was influenced musically by his Grandma Peggy. Joe graduated from the University of Southern Florida at 19 receiving a BA in Mathematics with honors. After college, he became an accomplished potter and macrame artist. At 21 he returned to school, earning his MS in Electrical Engineering from USF and became a system analyst. After traveling, Joe's love of the ocean drew him to Yachats, Ore. His 36 year career as a research and development manager at Lucidyne Technologies (currently Microtec) in Corvallis began in 1988. Joe was recognized for his cutting-edge ideas and also was appreciated as a mentor and friend.

In the mid-nineties, Yosi reconnected with his Jewish roots. He was ordained as a Cantor in 2011. He continued to work for Lucidyne remotely while serving as a Cantor at many East Coast synagogues. Temple Beth Israel in Waltham, Mass., became a loving home for him during the years he served as its cantor. Yosi and Emily Fox met in 2017 in Eugene Ore., and married in 2019. They found joy and fulfillment sharing music, nature and life together. Yosi died suddenly on December 15, 2024 due to an unexpected coronary event. He is survived by Emily and his aunt Sandy Juster in Tampa, Fla. Yosi was a man of many talents. He had a beautiful voice and a beautiful soul. He is remembered for his sensitivity, kindness, and holy dancing. We are better for having known him.
