Josephina “Joey” Keyzer-Andre, a lifelong Montessori devotee and a gentle force of generosity and kindness, passed away on February 20, 2026, in Dayton, Ohio, at the age of 78. Born on May 12, 1947, in Breda, Netherlands, she discovered early in life that nurturing children was not just a passion, but her purpose. She grew into a warm, spirited, and deeply compassionate woman whose presence brightened every room and whose influence touched countless lives throughout her remarkable journey.

Joey's passion for education was evident in her career, where she never wavered in her commitment to nurturing young minds. She was known for her ability to inspire children, always believing in their potential and never giving up on any child who crossed her path. Her unwavering dedication to the true Montessori-method of teaching & school directing made her not only an educator but also a mentor and friend to countless students, parents, and staff.

Her love for education shaped her entire career. Josephina believed wholeheartedly in the potential of every child, and she dedicated herself to guiding young minds with patience, respect, and unwavering belief. She championed the true Montessori method, not only as an educator but as a mentor, leader, and friend to students, families, and colleagues. She was widely-known for her ability to inspire children, always believing in their potential and never giving up on any child who crossed her path. Her ability to create environments where children could thrive while learning remains one of her most enduring gifts.

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Joey was also a beloved family member. She leaves behind her cherished husband of 60 years, Rene Keyzer-Andre Jr., for whom she provided incredible care during the past five years. Their family grew to include a son, Rene Keyzer-Andre III (Margarita Martinez), who carries forward the values and many lessons instilled by his mom. Joey loved her role as a grandmother to Michael (Alicia) Zimov, Jennifer (Miguel) Coias, and David Bealer, and she took immense pride in being a great-grandmother to Ava, Mason, and Noah.

Her vibrant personality was matched only by her talents in various hobbies. She was an exceptional seamstress and enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and applique, activities that she often shared with friends and family who cherished the gifts she created. Her ability to speak six languages was a testament to her intelligence and passion for connecting with people from diverse backgrounds throughout her life across multiple countries and many states.

Joey's memory will be lovingly carried on by her loving sister, Mein Damen, and her nephews Toine (Lidy) Damen, Hans (Elle) Damen, and William Brouwers and their extended families, who remember her with the utmost affection.

She leaves behind the legacy of her parents, Eugene Papciak and Antonia Rasenberg, as well as a lasting impact on all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her great-grandson, Jude Coias; her sister, Anne Brouwers; her brothers-in-law, Ad Damen and Henk Brouwers; and her nephew, Ad Brouwers.

As we celebrate the extraordinary life of Josephina "Joey" Keyzer-Andre, we remember her not only for her achievements but for the love, laughter, and inspiration she generously shared. She will forever be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her and the countless hearts she touched.
