Josephine "Jo" Conese

Josephine Carille Conese, at an amazing and completely fulfilled 106, passed away on Tuesday, May 27, 2025.Josephine was born on July 19, 1918 in Pennsylvania to the late Nicolo and Rosaria Carille. She was the 7th child of the 10 siblings in total. Josephine was a resident of Westchester, New York before she became a Yorktown resident in 1987.
She was predeceased by her husband, Frank of 58 years. She was also predeceased by her son, Frank J. Conese. Additionally she was predeceased by all of her siblings. Her sisters Annie, Lena and Rosie and her brothers, Dan, Peter, Frank, Samuel, Nicky and Tony.
She is survived by her son Joseph P. Conese as well as her grandchildren Jennifer, Christopher, Jacquelyn, Paul and Donna. She is survived by her great-grandchildren, Jason, Jr., Jake, Jarred, Chloe, Kaisen, Caylee and Kash. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of those who loved her, and her memory will forever be cherished by all family and many friends. In a recent article written about her 100th birthday celebration – Jo was asked about what her secret was to a long life – to which she replied, "I always ate my vegetables and never drank or smoke"
She lived a long and full life, experiencing the joys and challenges of many decades. She was always able to approach life with grace and wisdom and pass that on to anyone she was lucky enough to come in contact with. Josephine was a breast cancer survivor. Throughout her life, Josephine enjoyed traveling, cooking, gardening, entertaining and spending time with friends and family. She enjoyed playing bingo with her friends and attending many events at the York County Senior Center. She was an amazing cook and her signature peas and pasta can never be duplicated. She enjoyed coloring in her spare time and an occasional puzzle. You could catch Josephine on the edge of her seat watching wrestling a few times a week as well as enjoyed her daily game shows. Josephine was a NY Yankee fan and looked forward to watching their games. She equally enjoyed watching her great grandsons playing baseball just as much – Even if it was virtually. In the last decade her greatest joy was spending time with her great-grandchildren. She enjoyed crafts, decorating cookies playing, cuddling with them and the occasional threat of a punishment with a paddle or a wooden spoon.
Josephine took pride in her dedicated 35 year volunteer role where she helped with the Peninsula Agency on Aging's Dining Club program. She was recognized in 2017 with a Volunteer Award by the York County Board of Supervisors. She was still attending up to three times a week prior to passing. Jo was also a member of the Italian Americans group in Newport News, VA.
