Parent-Sorensen Mortuary and Crematory - PetalumaJosephine Patricia Dixon, age 87, passed away peacefully on January 15, 2026, after a courageous journey with metastatic breast cancer.
Born on February 18, 1938, in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Josephine—known affectionately as “Patsy”—was the third child of the late Edward R. Dixon and Elizabeth R. (Brown) Dixon of Tewksbury, Massachusetts. From an early age, she embodied compassion, strength, and a deep care for others.Josephine attended nursing school at Tewksbury State Hospital and went on to serve our country in the Women’s Army Corps. Her service took her to Okinawa, Japan at the time of the Vietnam War, and to Letterman Army Hospital in San Francisco, where her dedication and kindness left a lasting impression on those she served alongside.
She later made her home in Petaluma, California, where she and close friend Anita Rose, raised her daughter. Josephine had a rare gift for building community and forming meaningful connections wherever she lived. For the past 20 years, she was an active resident of Colorado Springs, Colorado. An avid adventurer, Josephine loved hiking, swimming, gardening, crafting, traveling and above all, spending time with people. Her generous spirit was reflected in her many years of volunteer service at Sonoma Mountain Elementary School in Petaluma, St. Francis Medical Center in Colorado Springs, and her local Catholic churches—St. James, St. Gabriel’s, and Our Lady of the Pines.
Josephine is survived by her daughter Lisa (Cleveringa) Coble and son-in-law Bill Coble; her grandchildren Kaitlyn (Cleveringa) Sampaio and husband Austin, Nathan Cleveringa and wife Rosie, Nicholas Cleveringa, and Lacey (Coble) Gebbert; three great-grandchildren; and many friends and extended family members whose lives she touched.Always ready for whatever life offered, Josephine lived with passion, warmth, and joy.
