Ms. Josephine "Josie" Lipscomb, 76, of
Detroit, MI, formerly of
West Point, GA, gained her wings into eternal rest on October 31, 2025 at LaFayette Nursing Home.
Funeral Services for Ms. Josephine Lipscomb will be held on Friday, November 14, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. EST in the sanctuary of the Ebenezer Baptist Church,1006 North 10th Avenue,
Lanett, Alabama 36863 with Reverend Dr. Eric Marks, Sr. Officiating Eulogist.
Committal will follow in the Pine Hill Cemetery, 2162 22nd Street, S.W.,
Lanett, Alabama 36863.
Public viewing will be held on Thursday, November 13, 2025 from 2:00 p.m. EST until 6:00 p.m. EST at the M.W. Lee Mortuary.
Josephine Lipscomb was born on March 6, 1949 in
Cusseta, Alabama to the late Hattie Pearl Lipscomb Shells and Fred Lipscomb, Sr.
At a young age, Josephine accepted Christ as her personal savior and joined the Bethlehem Baptist Church, West Point, Georgia. Josephine was a product of the 1967 Harrison High School graduating class, West Point, Georgia, where she was Valedictorian. After high school, she was accepted into Texas College, Tyler, Texas, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1971 with a Bachelor of Arts degree.
After college, Josephine moved to
Detroit, Michigan. While continuing her love of God, she joined St. Phillips Missionary Baptist Church where she served faithfully as a Sunday school teacher and Announcement Clerk. She was employed by Home Federal Savings and Loan Association of
Detroit, Michigan, where she served as treasurer for several years.
Although Josephine never had any biological children, she was instrumental in nourishing her nieces and nephews. She was stern, but her love was unwavering. Her sharp intellect and quick wit made her a joy to be around. Her laughter, bright and unmistakable, could fill any room.
Josephine was preceded in death by her parents; step-father, Charles Shells; sister, Hattie Mae Lipscomb and brother, Fred Lipscomb, Jr.
Josephine leaves to cherish her memories, her sisters, Mary Charles Trammell,
Lanett, Alabama and Irish Hodges,
Detroit, Michigan; brother, Norman (Jaclyn) Lipscomb,
Lanett, Alabama; sister-in-law, Lena Lipscomb, Shaker Heights, Ohio; aunts, Gertrude Walker, Brooklyn, New York, Dorothy White, Cleveland, Ohio and Dora Boazman, Opelika, Alabama; uncle, Renza Wright, Sr., Opelika, Alabama; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, classmates and friends.
