Josephine Martinson
Josephine Martinson, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away on November 12, 2025, at the age of 93, surrounded by her loving family at Empath Hospice in Palm Harbor, Florida. Born on March 29, 1932, in Brooklyn, New York, Josephine lived a life rich with love, laughter, and unwavering dedication to her family and community.
Josephine's early years in Brooklyn were filled with fond memories that laid the foundation for a life characterized by warmth and generosity. On June 30, 1956, she married the love of her life, Russell R. Martinson, at St. Finbar's Roman Catholic Church. Their marriage was a beautiful partnership that lasted an incredible 69 years, during which they built a family that would be her proudest legacy.
Josephine was a devoted mother to her four children-Ann Marie Tiernan, Russell M. Martinson, Peter Martinson, and Maryellen Conrad. She cherished each of them deeply, instilling in them the values of love and kindness. Her love extended to her six grandchildren and two bonus grandchildren, as well as her two great-grandchildren, who brought her immense joy and pride. To them, she was not just a grandmother but also a confidante, a cheerleader, and a source of unwavering support.
Throughout her life, Josephine had various roles, from being a business owner to working in sales and administration, but her most important role was that of a mother and homemaker. She expertly balanced her professional and personal life, always ensuring that her family felt loved and cared for. Her home was a haven, marked by delicious meals, joyous gatherings, and the warmth of her unconditional love.
Josephine was an active member of her community, bringing her vibrant spirit to organizations such as St. Ignatius of Antioch Roman Catholic Church in Tarpon Springs, Florida, and the Dutchess Golf and Country Club in Poughkeepsie, New York. She also delighted in her time with the St. Finbar's Choir in Brooklyn, where her love for music blossomed.
A woman of many interests, Josephine found joy in playing golf, bridge, bingo, and card games with her children and grandchildren. She had a passion for cooking and decorating for all holidays, ensuring that every occasion was special and filled with love. Her unique ability to love unconditionally touched the hearts of all who knew her, and her expressive eyebrow will forever be remembered as a playful indicator of her feelings.
Josephine's journey was not without its challenges, as she battled heart disease, cancer, and strokes. Her strength and resilience throughout these struggles were a testament to her character. Her proudest achievements, however, were not measured by accolades but by the love she fostered within her family.
As we mourn the loss of Josephine Martinson, we are reminded of the countless ways she enriched our lives. She was a beacon of love and joy, and her spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of her family and friends. In her final years, she expressed gratitude to those who filled her life with happiness, and we wish to extend that gratitude to all who shared in her journey.
A memorial service for Josephine will be determined by the family at a later date.
Josephine Martinson will be deeply missed, but her love and spirit will remain with us forever.
