Josephine McKean Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Rogers Funeral Home, Inc. - Philadelphia on Mar. 6, 2026.
Josephine McKean (nee Stricker), 67, of Panama City Florida (originally from South Philadelphia PA) passed away on March 4th 2026.

Born on September 24th, 1958, Jo (as she liked to be called), was the very definition of strength, love, and individuality. A metal head to the end, she could be found sporting concert tees and Doc Martens and rocking out to Ozzy Osbourne and Led Zeppelin. In her job as a classroom assistant, she became a favorite of the students she worked with, many of whom affectionately called her "mom." She had a gift for teaching. She also had an insatiable curiosity that led to her study of criminal investigations, earning an Associates degree in the subject in 2006.

She was fiercely devoted to her children and grandchildren, and she would do anything for them. Jo was the loving sister of Dorothy Blankenship (Hank), Susan, Maryann, and Paul. She was preceded in death by her siblings Martha, Charles, David, and Phyllis. She was the adoring mother of Jenna (Bryan), Monica (Steve), and Michael (Alfred), and the proud grandmother of Nicholas, Julian, Katrina, Jacob, and Ethan.

While it hurts so much to lose her, it is a great comfort to know that Jo is at peace and reunited with her beloved parents and siblings. She will forever be held in the deepest part of everyone's hearts, and her family will never grow tired of telling the stories of how strong, outspoken, and loving she was.

Relatives and friends are invited to her Viewing and Celebration of Life on Wednesday, March 11, 2026 after 10 AM until Noon at Rogers Funeral Home, Inc., 1426-30 South 3rd Street, Philadelphia, AP 19147.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Jo's name to the PBCers Organization (www.pbcers.org/donate) or by mail to 1014-A Greenleaf Road, Rochester, NY 14612.

With you I was there from the start. I remember the elation of the Pepper sisters (who owned two variety stores around the corner from our home) upon learning you were born on Yom Kippur - their holiday that year. As Mom taught me care of the little ones, she allowed me to bathe, diaper and dress you as an infant. I would take you on strolls in the coach, and later the stroller when you got older. I was there for your first steps, and when you started school I would shower you with kisses when you got home and ask what you learned in school that day. I watched you grow up, get married and start your own family. Now it's come full circle. God has called you home. As with those who preceded, you have returned to Mom and Dad. Go with grace, you are now in the arms of your family in Heaven.
