The daughter of the late Luigi Scotto and Anna Minutolo Scotto, she was born March 18, 1931 in Newburgh, NY.
Josephine worked as a secretary at West Point and then later at Leptondale Elementary School, Newburgh, NY.
She was the widow of Albert McPhillips.
Josphine is survived by her daughter Maryann Barnhart and her husband Ronald, son Bill McPhillips and his wife Pam, eight grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren and her sister Patricia Saltalamachia.
Visitation will be Friday, January 3, 2025, 9:30am-11am at Overhiser Funeral Home, 78 Union St., Montgomery, NY 12549.
A service at the funeral home will follow the visitation. Fr. Matthew Reiman will officiate.
Burial will take place at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Newburgh, NY.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Rest in Peace Aunt Jose.. I will always remember that day in Tampa when you and Uncle Al came to visit Grandma (Mary Decola) all of you guys were sitting chatting away and I tapped on the widow. Oh Goodness did I scare you. After that you called me your little Gargamel. All our Love to You and the Family. Michael, Rosemary, Camella and Sofia.

Dear Maryann, Billy and family,

Dear Family
We have no words to express our love for your mom. She helped take the place of our mom when she passed to give us "those looks and those talks" as you can imagine. She will be sorely missed. Our consolation is that she is with those she loved and missed so desperately.
