Rev. Alvin Riley, Jr.
July 20, 2024
Josephine and I met at an education conference when we both were working with TRIO Programs. At this meeting, we were the only Black people there. We decided to have lunch together. We discovered the we had a mutual cousin who was the Director of Harvard Upward Bound. Then she started asking me a boat load of questions about my family. Then she told me her maiden name and I said my father's first cousins had the same last name and that my Godfather was a Corbin also. Then she asked me who is your Godfather, I said, Woodrow Corbin and Buster Corbin was my brother's Godfather. She then screamed and said, "Woodrow is my father." We laughed and spent the rest of the conference together and exchanged phone numbers. Josephine was such a loving and caring person even in her professional life. She took me under her wing and gave me guidance and advice about working with our people, low income. When ever we saw each other at family gatherings we'd laugh and she always gave me advice as my mentor and cousin. She will be greatly missed. from your cousin Rev. Alvin Riley
