Joshua Dean Woods passed away at the age of 37 on Wednesday, November 23, 2022. He was a loving son, husband, stepfather, brother, nephew, cousin, and friend to many. Josh is survived by his wife, Colleen, his stepsons Hunter and Matthew Hurdelbrink; his father Dean (Debrah) Woods; brother Aaron Burwell; grandmother Marilyn Woods; uncle Jerry (Wendy) Woods; aunts Gayle (Ron) Goodman, Michele (William) McLuckie, and Jayne (John) Poplin; cousins Victoria (Matthew) Chamberlain, Edward Gallegos, Pedro Gallegos, Corey (Kayla) McLuckie, Craig (Rachel) McLuckie, Ryan Miller, Sean Miller, Christopher Poplin, and Alex (Lindsey) Woods. Josh was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Mary Paul Woods, his grandfather James Woods, his aunt Donna Langley, and cousin John Edward Poplin.
Josh exemplified what it meant to live life in the moment. He loved his family, his friends, and his teams with a passion. He was able to talk at length, about most any subject, but his favorite topic was sports. Any sport, but most especially football, a game he played throughout school in Perrysburg, as well as wrestling, track and field, and baseball. He was athletic his whole life, enjoying skiing, golf, hiking, and camping. He carried an encyclopedic knowledge of football statistics for the Ohio State Buckeyes and the San Francisco Forty-Niners. He was equally well-versed on movie trivia, and could quote, verbatim, whole lines of dialogue to suit whatever occasion. He also loved music, and while doing pretty much anything, there was a soundtrack to follow.
Most of all, Josh loved life. His heart was open to anyone, and everyone who met Josh came away feeling like they had made a friend. He was quick with a smile, even quicker with a laugh, his wit and humor a joy to all. Josh went out of his way to make others feel they were the most important person in the room. At his recent wedding, he lamented that he did not have the chance to talk to every person there for as long as he wanted, and he was worried that he had left someone out. His compassion was equaled only by his great love for his wife and the new life they were building. Though he left this world far too soon, he left this world a better place.
His family will hold a visitation at Witzler-Shank-Walker Funeral Home, 222 E. South Boundary, Perrysburg, OH 43551, on Thursday, December 1, 2022, from 1:00pm to 7:00pm, a memorial service will be held at 7:00pm the same day. Josh will be cremated following the services. Josh's wife and father have requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to the Perrysburg Yellow Jacket Athletics or to the Genoa Comets Athletics programs, to honor Josh's love of sports.
