Josip Miky Baide

Josip (Miky) Baide was born in Zagreb, Croatia July 16, 1937.

He was a frogman in the Croatian Navy where he learned the love of swimming. He soon became a Croatian Butterfly Olympic class swimmer. He escaped communism and came to Utah following his father to the American dream of freedom and opportunity where he gained his US citizenship.

He worked for the Department of Transportation for 30 years until he retired at 62.

He loved any outdoor sport and was a Ski Patrol for much of his life in the winter and living on his boat in the summers. He loved his friends and family very much although we never really knew what he'd say next.

He was preceded in death by his father Frederick Baide and his mother Katarina (Jelena) Lovrenovic.

He is survived by his brother Antun (Braco) Lovrenovic; daughter Melissa Baide Ozanick (Vaughan), son Silvio Bajde; grandchildren Maddy Shepherd (Lee), Easton Hunsaker, Ivona Dragovic, David Bajde, Calven Ozanick; great-grandchildren Nika, Roko and his long time girlfriend Joan Nebeker.

Graveside services will be held Thursday, May 27, 2021 at 3 p.m. at Lindquist's Memorial Park at Layton, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.

A celebration of life to share memories will be held after the graveside at 2137 E. 2900 N., Layton to share memories.
