Funeral service for Joy Allen, age 84, of Mt. Pleasant, Texas will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 12, 2024 at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home in Sulphur Springs, Texas with Pastor Tommy Earl Burton and Dwight Alexander officiating. Interment will follow at Richland Cemetery with Brian Monk, Jaxton Monk, John Merrell, Mike Rushin, Garry Davison, Daniel Wyatt, and Dwight Alexander serving as pallbearers. Billy Gene Davison will serve as Honorary pallbearer. Visitation will be held one hour prior from 1:00-2:00 p.m. at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home. Ms. Allen passed away in Tyler, Texas on Monday, October 7, 2024..
Roxie Joy Allen was born on April 27, 1940 in Cooper, Texas to Henry Oliver and Lola Bernice (George) Cobb. She married Billy Jack Allen in Hugo, Oklahoma on June 3, 1957. Joy and Billy were involved with dairy farming for many years. Joy enjoyed participating in the Hopkins County Stew competition and won the title of 1989 State Champion in the Texas State Ice Cream contest and many other ice cream competitions through the years. She was a member of the Central Baptist Church.
Joy is survived by her son, Bill Allen and wife Andrea of Bryan, Texas; son, Robert Allen and wife Kathy of Combine, Texas; daughter, Laura Burton and husband Tommy Earl of Mt. Pleasant, Texas; daughter-in-law, Chris Allen of Sulphur Springs, Texas; grandchildren, Christopher Allen (Laura Johnson), James Allen, Richard Allen (Angela), John Burton, Anna Burton Craig (Matt), Sandy Burton Hatcher (Paul), Mandy Burton, Colte McCorkle (Stephanie), Connor McCorkle, Skylar Holley (Delane), Shana Lane (Eric), Brianna Day, and Joshua Hogart; great-grandchildren, Gabriel Allen, Emma Joy Allen, Sam Holley, Daniel Holley, Troy Holley, Bella Holley, Noah Holley, Hadley Lane, Hensley Lane, Machelle Allen, Kyleigh Allen, Kyrsten Allen, Maci Allen, Bailey Allen, Phoebe McCorkle, Enoch McCorkle, Joni McCorkle, Ari McCorkle, Laurali Craig, Collin Craig, Jase Craig, and Jesse Craig; sister, Kay John Plathe of Tyler, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Lola Cobb; husband, Billy Jack Allen; son, Jimmy Don Allen; brother, Ricky Cobb; and infant son.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation to the Richland Cemetery Association, 4553 FM 1563, Wolfe City, TX 75496.
