Joy Janel Smith, lovingly called (Tweet), was born March 29, 1974, to Herbert L Smith, Jr., and Letitia R Williams Smith.

Joy was born in Norfolk, Virginia. As a young child, she was very active in the Girl Scouts Troop of Mount Gilead, Troop 585, with her grandmother, Alberta Roberson Smith, as troop leader.

After retirement, she continued her employment for the Department of Defense in the DMV area.

Joy made her home in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. She loved the Lord dearly and became a faithful, serving member of The First Baptist Church of Glenarden under the leadership of Dr. John K. Jenkins, Sr.

Tweet was also a dedicated fan and a defender of the Commanders Football Team. Joy was a loving and supportive person to her family, friends, colleagues, and her close long-time friend, Lynette Scott of Tampa, Florida.

I was stationed at the Pentagon with this Joy of a person. I pray the family gets strength from knowing she gave her best to her family, friends, and country. She was a pleasure to work with and to socialize with. May God bless the family

Joy was a beautiful soul she had a smile that made you smile even if you were having a bad day. She showed the fruitage of God´s Holy Spirit in the way she lived her life and the way she treated others. Her mother´s joy is what she truly was. Gone but never forgotten. Cora Williams
