Joyce grew up in Decatur, where she attended local schools until the 10th grade. Joyce met and then married Carl Lewis Barrington on May 2, 1952. They were married 62 years until his passing. Joyce worked as a homemaker and then at Woolworth in Duncan, Oklahoma. She then worked as a purchasing agent for the city of Marlow, where she worked for 15 years before retiring in 1995.
Outside of her professional endeavors, Joyce was an avid crafter whose hands were rarely still. She possessed the remarkable talent of bringing fabric to life, sewing beautiful garments and intricate embroidery for her granddaughter and two great grandchildren as well as many friends. Her passion for puzzles was another facet of her creative spirit, with each completed puzzle finding a place of honor on the walls of her home. She loved to camp at the lake and fish and she taught her granddaughter and her great grandson how to fish. These hobbies were more than pastimes for Joyce; they were extensions of her love and care, tangible expressions of her dedication to those she held dear.
Joyce's commitment to her faith was evident in her active membership at the Eastside Baptist Church in Marlow and later at Rock Bridge Baptist Church in Norcross. Her involvement in the church community was a source of great comfort and joy throughout her life. It was within this fellowship that Joyce's compassionate heart and generous spirit were most vividly on display, as she formed lasting bonds and offered support to those around her.
Family was the cornerstone of Joyce's life. After her husband's passing, she moved to Georgia to be with her son and got to have two years with him before he went to heaven. She is survived by a loving and grateful family, including her daughter-in-law Patricia Barrington, her granddaughter Michelle Leggett and husband Ben, and her two great-grandchildren, Theo and Autumn Leggett, who brought her immeasurable joy. Joyce also leaves behind a cherished legacy through her brothers, Thomas Ham Jr. and Virgil Keen, and her sisters, Jean Ford, Tina Moore, and Nancy Whitt. Each family member was a unique thread in the rich tapestry of her life, and she loved them all profoundly.
Joyce was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Carl Lewis Barrington, her son Carl Don Barrington, and her sisters Zena Atchison and Lynette Joseph. She also held close to her heart the memory of her sister-in-law, Ola Mae Thomas. The love and memories shared with these dearly departed family members remained a source of strength and comfort to Joyce throughout her years. Joyce is now enjoying Jesus and her eternal reward in heaven.
