Joyce Ann Begale, age 80, of Waukesha, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on February 26, 2026. She had just celebrated her 80th birthday on January 31. Joyce was born January 31, 1946, in
St. Paul, Minnesota.
Joyce was a woman known for her caring heart, generous spirit, and deep love for family and friends. She began her professional career in the dental industry and later worked as an accountant. However, it was her work with children that truly brought her joy. Joyce became a library assistant at Dousman Middle School and later a teacher's assistant at Wales Elementary School, where she lovingly worked with children with special needs. Known affectionately as "Mrs. B," she took great pride in helping the children she worked with, and they adored her until her retirement.
Joyce had many interests that brought joy to her life and to those around her. She loved knitting and crocheting, baking, gardening, reading, playing cards skiing, and traveling with her husband Fred. She also enjoyed shopping and was known for surprising friends and loved ones with thoughtful gifts, often handmade or carefully chosen. Joyce loved entertaining friends in her home and cherished time spent with those she loved.
A proud Lutheran, Joyce and Fred enjoyed helping at church on Sundays with coffee hour. She also loved staying active through the years, playing volleyball and soccer, and she treasured the time spent with her bridge group and book club. Joyce had a natural gift for connecting with people and volunteered whenever she had the opportunity to help others.
Joyce is survived by her loving husband, Fred Begale; her daughters, Tracy Augur and Janell Stacey; and her stepchildren, Fred Begale and Heidi Brandt. She is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Ellis Bertek.
Joyce shared especially close friendships with several dear friends who remained devoted to her through the years: Jeri, Shirley, Susie, Caryl, and Marcia. Their loyalty, love, and friendship meant the world to her.
Joyce loved her step-grandchildren and treasured every opportunity to spend time with them. She also loved to travel and was grateful to see many parts of our country and the world with her beloved husband Fred.
Joyce touched many hearts throughout her life. She had a way of making an impression on everyone she met, and her kindness and generosity will be remembered by all who knew her.
The family will be hosting a Celebration of Life later this spring. Please check the Hartson Funeral Home website for details regarding the service.
