Joyce (Slade) Burns, 82, of Biloxi, MS, passed away on Saturday, April 19, 2025, in Mobile, AL, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on November 9, 1942, in Mobile, AL, a daughter of the late Lavelle and Evelyn (Heim) Slade.
Joyce cherished family gatherings and quality time with her beloved dogs, Rosie and Luna. She looked forward to her weekly casino outings, cheering on her favorite NASCAR drivers, playing Bingo, she loved her Crimson Tide Football Team, Saints, Braves and celebrating Mardi Gras. For many years, she was an active member of the Moose Lodge and VFW in D’Iberville, MS, where she took on the role of bartender. Additionally, Joyce delivered the Sun Herald as part of her newspaper route for many years.
Joyce is survived by two daughters, Dana (Terry) Peterson of Vancleave, MS, and Kathryn “Kat” Burns of Biloxi, MS; one son, Robert (Nancy) Burns of Montgomery, AL; one stepdaughter, Jo (Rodney) Hannuksela of Richmond, RI; fourteen grandchildren, Keisha (McMillan) Mays, Rebecca (McMillan) Graham, T.J. (Lesley) Peterson, Gary (Karen) Surian II, Meggan (Chris) Reisch, Claire Burns, Christopher Burns, Nicholas Burns, Heather Peterson, Amber (Peterson) Vidal, D.R. (Beth) Peterson, Donna Mansfield, Tessie Goode, and Gary Mansfield; and many great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Joyce was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Fernale “Lee” Burns; two sons, Paul (Linda) Burns and Edward “Eddie” Burns; one stepson, James “Jimmy” Burns; one stepdaughter, Pamela “Pam” (Anthony) Mansfield; and one brother, Charles Slade.
Visitation for the family will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. until 9:30 a.m at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 274 Beauvoir Road, Biloxi, followed by a Visitation for friends from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. A gathering to Celebrate the Life of Joyce Burns will follow at her home located at 319 Westview Drive, Biloxi MS, 39531 where there will be refreshments served.
The Commitment ceremony will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 9, 2025 at Biloxi National Cemetery. A procession will leave at 10:30 a.m. from Riemann Family Funeral Home, 274 Beauvoir Road, Biloxi. Joyce's urn will be placed in the Mausoleum alongside her husband.
