The memorial service for Joyce Des Camps, 90, of Aberdeen, SD, will be 10:00am, Saturday, August 16, 2025 at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, with Pastor Nicole Martin officiating. Burial at Groton Union Cemetery, Groton. Joyce died Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at Avera St. Luke's Hospital in Aberdeen.

Visitation will be one hour prior.

Joyce Knoll was born to Edna R. (Roettele) & Jake Knoll on December 5, 1934, in Aberdeen, SD. She went to first grade at Happy Valley Country School which was two miles from her parents' farm. She graduated from eighth grade in 1948. She went to high school at Aberdeen Central and graduated in 1952. While in high school, she worked as a nurse's aide at St. Luke's Hospital after school and on weekends. She left the hospital and worked for Gubin Bros. Cleaners. Joyce went on to the School of Commerce in Aberdeen, SD. After graduation, she started working for Invention Diversified Services for nine years. After closing the office in Aberdeen, she worked in the office for Vaeybit Buick Garage. Then, through friends, she met Chief Thomas and started working for the Police Department in 1963. Sheriff Oakes asked her to come and work at the Brown County Sheriff's office. After twenty five years, Joyce retired. After retirement, she had lots of enjoyable moments. Joyce enjoyed playing Royal Rummy and being in the Red Hat Society. She was also a lifetime member of the Moose Lodge.

In 1955, Joyce married James Des Camps. He passed in 1998.

Grateful for having shared Joyces life are her children: Jalene (Kerry) Palmer, Jay (Janette) Des Camps, Jim (Melissa) Des Camps, and Jeff (Kristi) Des Camps; grandchildren: Jason (Jill) Palmer, Travis (Lorrie) Palmer, JaVay Kambeitz, Jill (Lee) Spohn, Jacob (Courtney) Des Camps, Tracy (Cody) Link, Kayla (Jamie) Feltes, Allyson (Brodie) Cundy, and Nick Des Camps; great grandchildren: Brianna , Isaac, Zachary, Jameson, Christian, JaLeigha, JezLynn, Jedidiaz, Cameron, Hudson, Anthony, Brayden, Xander, Kinley, Kaden, and Crew; great-great grandchild: Jayce; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding Joyce in death are parents: Jake (1953) & Edna (1998) Knoll; husband: James Des Camps; siblings: two sisters and one brother.
